I’M TRYING TO WATCH THE FREAKIN’ CAPCOM X FINGERCRAMP STREAM, BUT ALL THEY DO IT TALK ABOUT THE PLAYERS AND HAVE BREAKS. GIMME THE TOURNAMENT ALREADY!
Recently I had a chance to play the latest pre-release build of Street Fighter X Tekken at Capcom’s ‘Super Ultimate Showcase’ in Sydney. I went with the intention to ignore everything but this game, since the news I’d heard about it wasn’t really exciting me. I wanted to get my hands on the game myself before I decided to form too strong and opinion of it.
A lot of the competitive players were discouraged by the games balanced being focused around the gem system. The chain combo’s and tag system did intrigue me a little, but I felt the appearance of the game was too similar to SFIV to keep me interested. It sounds shallow, but after seeing the same game at the top of the communities interest for the last few years, I was hoping for something a little different.
When I finally got to play the game, I had pretty much no idea what I was doing. The timing of the chain combo’s were a little bit different to what I expected, but it was fun landing them and getting your second character to follow it up. The level design impressed me more than I thought they would. There’s some charming stuff going on usually, like Mecha-Gief falling through the sky, or a Harada vs. Ono billboard. By the end of the night, I was satisfied, but still not too fussed about it.
The problem now is, the more I think about it the more I wish I was still playing it! Maybe it’s because I haven’t had a new fighter in a while, or maybe it’s purely because I know I can’t have it. Either way, I’m resorting to watching footage of the fights I watched that night, reminiscing and getting keen to play the damn game! With today’s confirmation of Jin and Ogre on the Tekken side, I know I’m super keen to see what that side of the cast has to offer in a 2D environment.
To close things off, I’ll leave some footage of the other nights antics and also a write-up by Gamogo about the happenings of the night.
Adieu, followers. Adieu.
